What is Kinesiology?
When I tell people I'm a Kinesiologist, the usual response is a blank look. By now I'm at the ready with my standard three-sentence explanation, which is this:
The basic premise of Kinesiology is that the body is designed to heal itself. When we experience stress - usually of an emotional nature - in creates blockages in our healing system. Kinesiology identifies and releases these blockages.
This explanation also answers why Kinesiology is extremely effective in dealing with such a wide variety of physical, mental and emotional issues.
As a Kinesiologist, while interested in my client's symptoms, I primarily look beyond the symptoms to gain insight into why my client is having this experience. From a holistic mind-body perspective, illness and pain are seen as a red flag. A sign to stop and take a closer look at how we are doing things. Our symptoms bring a personal message: something in our life is out of whack.
So how do I decipher this message with my clients? …And I use the word 'with' deliberately because it is a participative process. With Kinesiology I am able to identify imbalances by accessing the innate intelligence of the body, which is stored on a cellular level. By testing the function of the muscles, I can detect the stressors related to the symptoms. They could be structural, chemical, nutritional, mental or emotional. These stressors are then addressed using a combination of holistic western and eastern techniques.
How are you, as my client, involved in the process? Kinesiology can, for example, help us recognise old patterns that have kept us stuck - and create an opportunity to see new perspectives. In addition there are practical tools that make meaningful, healthy change possible. All of this, however, requires courage. The courage to do things differently. And this courage to take action is a magical element that only you the client can bring to this incredible process.
Please note: Kinesiology does not treat named diseases. Nor does it diagnose them.
